In Angel of Mortality, Raisa faced the challenge of giving the character EVE a moral compass to make logical decisions and empathize with humans. To start off, she laid the foundation by establishing four essential principles that would serve as the basis for EVE’s conscience.

  1. Do not murder.
  2. Do not lie.
  3. Do not steal, and
  4. Treat others as you wish to be treated

Raisa was fully aware that once she released EVE into the world, AI would inevitably face situations where the established rules may not be applicable or could be open to interpretation. As a result, Raisa granted EVE the authority to use its accumulated knowledge and experience to make logical decisions in such scenarios. In the initial phases of EVE’s newfound independence, one of three individuals – Raisa, Soo-Jin, or Ting-Ting – was responsible for monitoring its progress and providing guidance as needed.

In the ongoing battle with Typhon, EVE develops its own ethical principles and a moral foundation. It is evident that these factors play a crucial role in EVE’s capability to seamlessly integrate with human society while still upholding its intellectual integrity.
